WAVERLEY NEWS

CLOSING OF BOWLS (Own Correspondent.) There was a good attendance of visiting and local bowlers at the closing of the Bowling Club's season on Saturday, visitors being present from Waitotara and Patea. At the conclusion of the play Mr. E. C. Dallison (president of the club) expressed the hope that one and all had enjoyed the afternoon and thanked the visitors for coming along. Mr. Ramsbottom, of the Patea Club, thanked the local members on behalf of the visitors for their hospitality and for the very good afternoon’s sport. Mr. Blackie, of the Waitotara Club, also spoke and called for three hearty cheers for Waverley. Following are the results:—M. Bremer, E. Aiken, W. Watkins, J. Palmer 9, v. Baskin, W. Salter, W. Fitzgibbon, J. Dalton 22; McClymont, Hurley, Carey, Wainwright 19, v. R. Bates, T. Foley, Strachan, A. Howie 18; Ramsbottom, Saumich, P. Bourke, Sheehan 23, v. Bourne, N. Owen, J. Cook, Southcombe 17; McDonald, H. Thomas, R. S. Aiken 25, v. Scadden, McKenna, F. Hodgetts 2; W. Simson, Hurley, Alexander, J. Verry 18, v. Gibson, Agson, E. Pearce, J. Bourke 12; Tennant, Train, J. Hurley, Blackie 16, v. Lampitt, Bourke, Marriott, E. C. Dallison 26; Fairweather, Bromiley, Dennis, Scowen 22, v. Southcombe, W. Aiken, W. Nicoll, R. Thomas 27; White, Edwards, Sheilds, W. White 26, v. Roberts, P. Fowler, R. Howie, Bromiley 16.

FIRE BRIGADE DANCE The Waverley Fire Brigade held a successful dance at Whenuakura recently, when a most enjoyable evening was spent by those present. It was unfortunate . that this dance clashed with other functions in Patea, otherwise the attendance would certainly have been much larger. A waltzing competition held during the evening created a good deal of interest, the winning couple being Miss Joan Hurley and Mr. Freer. The lucky spot waltz was won by Miss P. McGorrery and Mr. J. Beirne. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. W. Quayle, of Waverley. Mr. J. Coffee sang two songs pleasingly.
