PARADES TO TAKE PLACE TO-MORROW

ACTIVITIES IN WANGANUI BEGIN AT DAWN

Anzac Day will be observed throughout. New Zealand to-morrow. In Wanganui activities will begin with a Dawn Parade. Returned Soldiers are to fall in at 5.45 a.m. at the Victoria Hall, St. Hill Street, sharp on time. They are asked to note that the place of assembly is the Victoria and not the Drill Hall, as published yesterday. At 9.45 a.m., at the Drill Hall on this occasion, Returned Soldiers will assemble' to march to the Maori Memorial in Mouton Gardens. This i parade will be played from the Drill Hall to Moutoa by the Garrison Band.

In the afternoon a big civic service is to take place on Cook’s Gardens. Returned Soldiers and other units which are to tak? place in the march to the Cenotaph in Queen’s Park, are to fall in at the Drill Hall at 1.30 p.m. sharp. Led by the Queen Alexandra Band, this parade will march via Queen’s Park to the Cenotaph, where wreaths will he placed in memory of the fallen. Marching later to Moutoa Gardens, this parade will stand at the salute while wreaths are deposited on the Maori Memorial. After that the parade will march to Cook’s Gardens via Taupo Quay, Victoria Avenue, Guyton Street and Nelson Street. Units To Take Part. Units which are to take part in the afternoon parade, in order of position, are:—Band of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, returned soldiers, Legion of Frontiersmen, Salvation Army Band, St. John Ambulance Brigade, Wanganui Centre of New Zealand Red Cross Society, Band of the First Battalion Wellington West Coast Regiment, First Battalion of the Wellington West Coast Regiment, and a detachment of the Queen Alexandra Munted Rifles.

! While this parade is in progress the Wanganui Garrison Band will play appropriate music at Cook’s Gardens. It is to move to a position there on its own initiative and be ready to begin playing not later than 2 p.m. This band will play the marching units on to the ground as they arrive, bands in the column on the march to cease playing before entering the grounds. Massed bands, under the baton of Mr. R. Francis, L.R.S.M., will play the National Anthem and the hymns which will be sung during the afternoon. The Wanganui Highland Pipe Band will play the Technical College to the ground and the Collegiate School parade will be headed by its own pipe band. The Girls’ College will be headed by the Wanganui East School Band. Indoors If Wet. In the event of wet weather, and the parade at Cook’s Gardens being cancelled, units going to the Opera House will be Band of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, returned soldiers, First Battalion of the Wellington West Coast Regiment’s band, and First Battalion of the Wellington West Coast Regiment. Units going to the Majestic Theatre will be: Salvation Army Band, St. John Ambulance Brigade, Red Cross Society, detachment of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, Garrisos Band and Legion of Frontiersmen. The big bell in Cook’s Gardens will be tolled at 12.30 p.m. if the service is to be held indoors. Concert at Night. At night, in the Opera House, returned soldiers will finish the day by staging an annual war-time extravaganza. Catholic Observance. Catholic Returned Soldiers parading for the dawn parade will attend Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and in the afternoon they will attend devotions at the same church when there will be the recitation of the Rosary, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament.
