FRIENDLY INTER-CLUB MATCH ST. BARNABAS’ VISIT. On Saturday seven members of the St. Barnabas Club, the youngest club of the Wanganui Association visited the Wanganui East Club and played friendly matches. Mr. G. P. Williamson, president of the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association and vice-president of the Wanganui East Club, welcomed the visitors. Although the courts were heavier than usual they were in good playing condition and although the home team won the majority of the sets the visi-. tors proved worthy opponents. During the afternoon the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. Results, with St. Barnabas players mentioned first, were: Singles: K. Burt lost to A. Lowe 4-6, J. Burt lost to W. Hartnell 3-6, S. Ford lost to W. Laird 3-6. Miss Jannings beat Miss Hillier 6-0, Miss Ford lost to I. Bradshaw 3-6, Miss Burt lost to B. Bradshaw 3-6. Men’s Doubles: E. Wilson and J. Burt lost to A. Kay 2-6, K. Burt and Ford lost to Hartnell and Laird 1-6. Women’s doubles: Miss Jannings and Miss Burt lost to Miss Hillier and Miss B. Bradshaw 5-6, Miss Ford and Miss Jannings beat Miss I. Bradshow and Miss Fargie. Mixed doubles: Wilson and Miss Janning lost to Kay and Miss Hillier 4-6, J. Burt and Miss Burt lost to Hartnell and Miss B. Bradshaw 5-6, K. Burt and Miss Ford lost to Lowe and Miss Fargie 3-6.

FORDELL CLUB CLOSING DAY HELD. The Fordell Tennis Club held its official closing day of the season on Saturday when, in favourable weather, a friendly match was played between teams selected by the captain (Mr. J. Mcßeth) and the vice-captain (Miss A. Bousefield), and which resulted in a win for the captain’s team. Afternon tea was served by women members. Among the players and visitors present were: Mesdames S. E. Lloyd, H. Campbell, G. W. Bousfield, R. r.yan, J. Pennefather, P. Burrows (Napier); Misses J. Lloyd (secretary), O. Barnes, M. Tilley, A. and M. Bousfield. M. Kerens, A. Smeath; Messrs. H. Campbell (president), R. Rowan, B. Higgle, J. and F. Mcßeth, J. Pennefather, E. and R. Lloyd, A. Harkness, D. Campbell and W. Glasgow.
