DENIAL OF SEA BATTLE ADVANCES CLAIMED 1 Received April 12. 6.5 p.m. BERLIN. April 11. The German High Command stated that German troops in Norway had consolidated and extended their positions and occupied Elverum. Calm reigned in Oslo. All fortifications in the Oslo Fiord were in German hands. The Norwegian Army authorities had declared a readiness to co-operate in anti-air defence. A British naval attempt. to force Narvik harbour had been repulsed, three British being destroyed and one badly damaged. Reinforcements of German troops proceeded according to plan. Bergen and Trondheim, contrary io British reports, are sill in German hands. No attempts at a landing had been made anywhere. The German Air Force on the North Sea had hit a British destroyer with heavy bombs and bombers had put out of action a searchlight battery at Scapa Flow, a Hurricane was shot down and two German planes were missing. German chasers had protected the coasts of Denmark and Norway against enemy aircraft and have also protected Stavanger aerodrome, which is occupied by German airmen. British attacks on Stavanger had failed. Officials deny that the Bremen has been sunk. They deny that a big sea battle is progressing and state that transports will continue crossing the Skagerrak unmolested until the Norwegian situation is entirely under control.
