X’ATRXOTIC MEETING SOCIAL COMMITTEE FORMED (Own Correspondent.) PATEA, April 12. The object of. the public meeting held at Palea last Thursday evening was to eicct a social committee for the purpose of taking in hand all social functions held in connection! with the Patea patriotic collection| and also all other social functions in connection with patriotic endeavour, this social committee being the sug-j gestion of the Patea Collection Committee. Dr. W. Simmons, chairman of the j Patriotic Collection Committee, took I the chair until the election of the, social committee chairman, Mr. F.; RanlSbottorn, w ho then took th ? chair, i The election of ollicers resulted: Chairman, Mr. F. Ram.sbottm; seere-1 tary, Mrs. T. Cardiff; executive com-1 mittee, Mesdames F. Rarfisboltom, R. | W. Haddow, .1. N. Anderson and Messrs. C. S. Mart in, F. Mairs, M. | Boswell, Dombroski; general committee, all present, also Messrs. Coad, A. Taylor, A. Beauchamp, K. Christiani sen and W. Smith, the committee having power to be added to. Mr. G. Francis, manager of the Bank of New South Wales, said his branch of the bank or any Patea I branch of any other bank would, he was sure, be only too willing to act free of charge for the Patriotic Com-1 mittee. Many suggestions were put forward | at the meeting as a means of raising funds and Mr. Ramsbottom ‘-aid they would be put in concrete form by the executive committee. ’Those present at the meeting were Mesdames F. Ramsbottom, R. E. Moore, A. Willcocks, J. Haarer, G. Lainge, G. Mer-'i cer, S. Gunn, A. Davidson, C. Hill, R.! M. Stevens, C. S. Martin, G. Francis, I R. W. Haddow, W. T. Simmons, Misses I B. Wilson, C. Simmons, Messrs. A. Bennie, C. S. Martin, G. Francis, E. F. Mairs, G. Pettigrew, R. M. Stevens, A. H. Richards, S. Jury, P. Pulley, G. Braker, Rev. Walton. Apologies were received from Mr. : and Mrs. Hemingway. Mesdames Honeyfield, Beauchamp, Messrs. Roots, Cardiff, Rev. Farr. arts and crafts circle [ Judging by the large number who met on Wednesday for the formation of the Arts and Crafts Circle of the Patea Women's Institute and the keenness shown, the circle can look forward to a most successful year. Mrs. L. Austin was elected leader for the coming year and Mrs. Smiles will be in charge of afternoon tea arrangements. The circle will meet every second Friday and the box system will be adopted.
