TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD
CASTLECLIFF BRAN( H The monthly meeting of the Castlecliff Townswomen's Guild was held on April 9, in the Castlecliff Hall. There was a large gathering of members, including two new members. The meeting opened with the National Anthem and all stood in silence for one minute as a mark of respect to the late Prime Minister, Mr. M. J. Savage. Mrs. Anthony presided and welcomed those present. The minutes of the March meeting were read and the balance-sheet for the year ending in March was submitted. Apologies were received from Mesdames Lampitt, Brown, Ridgway, and Gaskin. Tea hostesses for May will be Mrs. Gaskin and Mrs. Duncan. A new member was proposed. A large display of needlework was exhibited and greatly admired by all present. The Arts and Crafts Group arranged to meet at Mrs. Paul’s house on Thursday, April 11, and the garden group to meet at Mrs. Grant’s house on April 17. Mrs. Anthony then welcomed Miss Sampson, who continued one of her interesting talks. These are considered to be a highlight at Castlecliff Townswomen’s Guild. Miss Sampson complimented the guild on its increasing membership. She chose for her subject, “A Journey Up the Rhine,” and the talk proved most interesting. Members expressed their appreciation by prolonged applause. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Heath and Hamilton. Mrs. Banks played the accompaniments for the community singing. Typed sheets of several well-known songs were distributed to members, thus enabling everyone to join in and pass a pleasant afternoon.
