FEAR OF PETROL SHORTAGE

COAL STRIKE’S EFFECTS TRANSPORT SERVICES CROWDED SYDNEY, April 11. There are fears that increased use of motor transport because of the coal strike may lead to a serious shortage of petrol in Australia. Acute overcrowding occurred in trains and trams in Sydney yesterday as the result of curtailment of services. The Premier, Mr. A. Mair, referring to the State’s financial position, said the effects of the strike would knock the Government’s finances sideways.
