WESTMERE INSTITUTE
ENJOYABLE MEETING. The April meeting of Westmere Women's Institute was held on the afternoon of Tuesday, 9th., and was a very useful and enjoyable event. The year began well, with a good attendance, the new president, Mrs. Cooper, being in the chair for the first time, with Mrs. D. Preston as secretary. Following the institute song and aspirations, members stood in respect ; for the memory of the late Prime I Minister. i Entertainment was in the hands of I Mrs. Carmody, who sang two songs 'delightfully; Miss E. Smith, who told j a pioneer tale of early Wanganui; i Mrs. Tank, who demonstrated reploom ' basket making very efficiently, and i Mrs. V. Wilson, who led community singing. Competitions were well patronised, the winners being Mrs. Budge and Mrs. Nichols for brown scones and Mrs. R. Taylor and Miss Dawes for best flower. Remits for the July conference were discussed and members had an opportunity to help the R.S.A. by purchasing poppies, which were for sale in the hall. Members were reminded of the annual council meeting to be held in Victoria Hall on Wednesday, 17th. instant, of the Arts and Crafts to be on display there and of the opportunity to meet Mrs. Kelso, Dominion organiser for the movement. Arrangements were finalised for a flag 500 evening, followed by dancing, to be held in Westmere Hall next Thursday for the purpose of augmenting the institute patriotic fund.
