The “hands off Russia” decision made by the Easter conference of the New South Wales branch of the Labour Party has caused extreme embarrassment in Labour political circles, says the Sydney Morning Herald. After a fiery debate the conference by 195 votes to 88 carried a motion opposing a war against the Soviet Union and demanding that every effort should be used to bring about peace at the earliest opportunity. i Opponents of the decision declare that unless the policy is altered, the I Labour Party is doomed to failure at I the Federal general election this year. | About 60 members of the Australian Imperial Force arrived at the [conference in a body last night and said they were “looking for the Communists responsible for the ‘hands oft Russia* policy.” Police persuaded them to leave the building.
