A British submarine torpedoed a German collier, believed to be the j Edmund Hugo Stinnes IV., of 2189 i tons, off the north-west coast of Jutland at midnight. The crew of 20 • were saved, two being injured in the launching of a lifeboat. They were 1 sent to hospital. j Members of the crew say that the j submarine gave them 15 minutes to i abandon ship and took the captain prisoner. The British submarine successes on the German iron-ore route, impress the Scandinavians, who were not aware that the Navy was operating so close to the Nazi bases. The German news agency alleges that the Hugo Stinnes was shelled in Danish waters and the captain kidnapped. It adds: “The attack is an incredible violation of Denmark’s sovereignty.’’ The Rotterdam correspondent of The Times says the Germans admit that, the Heddernheim was torpedoed in the Kattegat, which their warships are supposed to be constantly ( patrolling. BRITISH WARSHIPS . ATTEMPTS TO INTERCEPT . | GERMAN VESSELS NORWEGIAN PROTEST. Received March 25, 11.55 p.m. OSLO, March 25. An official communique slates that British warships attempted to intercept German vessels on the Norwegian coast three times in four days. They entered Norwegian territorial waters twice and probably three times, but Norwegian warships and planes ordered them off. A Norwegian torpedo-boat escorted a German merchantman across Norwegian waters, defying a British destroyer. A protest is being lodged in London. ANOTHER SHIP RUN AGROUND Received March 25, 11.15 p.m. COPENHAGEN, March 25. The Danish radio announces that Lhe steamer Ostpreussen has been run aground by the crew on the coast of Denmark.
