THE PRIME MINISTER’S HEALTH

r J’HE grave condition of the Prime Minister is now fully acknowledged. For a considerable time past the state of his health has been causing very real concern, for it was appreciated that the malady from which he has been suffering has been gaining in its hold over him. Unfortunately the indisposition of the Prime Minister has been made the subject of a campaign of misinformation, resulting in a stifling of those expressions of sympathy which would naturally be evoked by the indisposition of the Leader of the Dominion. Only as late as March 7 the Standard was featuring a front-page, article denying that the Prime Minister was indisposed, and asserting that he was in excellent health, and that any reports concerning his health were malicious propaganda by political opponents. Notwithstanding this misinformation which has clouded the matter, the public will extend to the brave little man who is now fighting for his life against the inevitable end, a full measure of sympathy. It is a consolation to know that he is fighting his last fight in the bosom of that family in which he has for so long sought solace over the long years of his public life. Whatever may be thought of his policies, there are few who will not accord to the Prime Minister in his last hours respect for his long labours, for his courage in meeting life’s battle, for his unfailing courtesy to all, and his fortitude in affliction. ATI will breathe a prayer that his last hours shall be devoid of bodily pain, that his mind shall be tranquil, and that in his soul there shall be peace.
