IN THE CHURCHES
EASTER SERVICES IN WANGANUI LARGE CONGREGATIONS. The Easter Day services in the churches of Wanganui and suburbs yesterday attracted large congregations. Women members of the congregation had decorated Christ Church (Anglican), wrere four Communion services were held, large numbers attending. A Festal Even Song was held at night. The Collegiate School Chapel was crowded for the morning services yesterday, and again at night when a special Old Boys’ service was held. Nearly every member of the large congregations which attended tne Masses at St. Mary’s Catholic Church yesterday, was a holy communicant. It is estimated that more than 1500 received communion in St. Mary's parish. The scene in the sanctuary indicated an occasion of rejoicing. The profusely decorated High Altar, the work of the Sisters of St. Joseph, and the large bowls and vases of Easter lilies, contrasted with the scene on Good Friday, when the sanctuary was bared and statues and crucifixes were veiled in purple. At St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, there were large congregations, the Rev. A. C. McLean, preaching in the morning on “The Hours of Exaltation” and at night on “The Challenge of Easter." The choir sang special Easter music. The Rev. E. B. Chambers, conducted the services at Trinity Church in the morning and at night. Easter services were also held at the Baptist Church, Church of Christ and at the Salvation Army.
