WESTMERE WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
ANNUAL MEETING The ninth annual meeting of the Westmere Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday, March 12, when Mrs. Robinson presided over a good attendance. Sympathy was expressed with Mrs. Chittick in the loss of her home by fire. Mesdames Robinson and Edwards were appointed delegates to the annual council meeting. An appeal for parcels for soldiers was received and it was decided that five be sent, some members offering to make cakes to be included. The annual report and balancesheet were read and adopted. Mr. F. Smith was reappointed auditor for the ensuing year. Points prizes for the year were won by Mrs. Frost and Mrs. Budge. Competitions for the day resulted: Bowl of flowers, Mrs. Dickinson 1, Mrs. Frost 2; old photographs, Mrs. Frost.
Community singing, led by Mrs. Wilson, was much enjoyed. Members were asked to bring handcrafts to the next meeting for the ex- ' hibit to be held at.the annual council meeting. The following officers and committee were elected: President, Mrs. W. G. Cooper; vice-presidents, Mesdames Brownlie, Barnes and Robinson; secretary, Mrs. Preston; treasurer, Mrs. Simmons; committee, Mesdames Carwardine, Corliss, Frost, Prince, Taylor, Misses Carwardlne, Nicholls, and Ayling. Beautiful bouquets were handed to the retiring president, Mrs. Robinson, and to the secretary and treasurer. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Brownlie, Frost, Pratt, and Miss T. Taylor. The meeting concluded with the National Anthem.
