Gift Evening. An enjoyable evening was spent at the home of Miss Aikens, “Melrose,” Liverpool Street, in honour of Miss Thelma Wansbrough, whose marriage takes place shortly. Gifu were received by the guest of honour. Among those present were Miss E Sherriif, Mrs. G. Lovegiove, Miss M Gamman, Mrs. R. Seoullar, Miss N Elliott, Mi>s T. Collier, Mrs. L. Sherri tf, Miss H. Scott, and Miss Ashmore Coming of Age. On Saturday evening last Mi. anc Mrs. Nelson, of Tay Street, enter' taineu about 60 guests at the Hyltor Lodge Hall, Aramoho, the uccasior being the coming-of-age of tiieir soi Earl Mr. and Mrs. Nelson receiver the guests, the hostess wearing a blaci> ninon and lace evening frock with r corsage of red roses. An enjoyable evening was spent in dancing ant games. After a delightful supper the guest of honour was presented witfa gold key, and the customary toast: were honoured. A pleasant evening was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Young Contingent Doings. Members of the Young Contingent of the Wanganui branch of the victoria League met on Tuesday night in the league president’s home, Mrs A. H. Boyes, Selwyn Street. The time was spent making badges to be worn by the officials at the Navj League Fair, and after supper Mrs. Boyes gave a talk on the league's d/ imgs in London. Among those present were Mrs. V, B. Haworth, Misses Mar'gery Strode-Penny, Ailsa Mitchell. | Joan Webster, Nance O'Ncul, Joar jWilhs, Joan Gardiner, Pai Jarvie I Beth Hill, Penrhyn Hutton, Irma McKay. Helen Laidlaw, Trevor Hunter Jocelyn Turnbul, Joan Cooper, Phyllis Drummond, Ora Jones. Vida Winstone, Lenva McCahn, Louie McPhail and Margery Melville. Party in Aid of Fighting Sei vices Appeal. Last evening Mesdames W. J. Gilbert and E. B. Hayward were hostesses at the home of Mrs. Gilbert Parkes Avenue, St. Johns Hill, anc gave a card party in aid of the righting Sei vices Welfare Appeal organised by the Y.M.C.A. and the Salvation Army. There were a large number present and a most enjoyable evening was spent. Among those who made up tables were; Mesdames M. Laird W. J. Robinson, T. N. Hay-Campbell, G. S. Simpson. J. McDougal, H.
