YEARLING SALES

Bulandshar Colt Tops The List j TWO THOUSAND GUINEAS SATISFACTORY PRICES REALISED [ Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. ! The importance attached to the Na- i tional Yearling Sales was reflected in i the large and representative attendance of buyers at Trentham to-day, when the thirteenth clearance of thoroughbreds was conducted by the auctioneers, Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd. (Wellington), William Inglis and Son, Ltd. (Sydney), and Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd. (Christchurch). Mr R. Inglis was unable to be present and Mr. C. E. Robertson conducted the sale. Bidding opened on a quieter note than last year, for although there was a fairly strong array of Australian buyers it was early apparent that prices would be on a lower scale than formerly. The first lot to enter the ring went to an overseas buyer in Mr. J. Matthews, of Sydney, who secured a Bulandshar colt for 70 guineas. However, succeeding offerings maintained a higher average, and bidding became really brisk with the first of the Foxbridge entries. This was a fine upstanding colt from the General Latour mare Rose Latour, the youngster finally falling to the bid of Mr. H. D. Greenwood, of Amberley, at 700 guineas. The best price, 2000gns., was obtained for the Bulandshar —Tea Tattle colt, offered on behalf of Mr. A. W. Meikle, Mangateretere, Hastings, the purchaser being Mr. C. Wheeler, ot Adelaide, who has been a generous buyer for several years on behalf of Australian clients. The Tea Tattle colt is a half-brother to Begorrah, and his dam is a half-sister to Barometer and Silver Jubilee. On behalf of Mr. G. M. Currie, Koatanui Stud, five colts and two fillies by Posterity and Ringmaster realised 1490 guineas, and on behalf of the Grange Stud, Westmere, one coll, and three fillies, by Phaleron Bay, realised 1375 guineas. In all. 113 lots of the 221 offered were sold for a total of 28,410 guineas. Following are the realisations . of 120 guineas or more, all prices being in guineas:— Account S. G.
