FLAG DAY APPEAL
RESULT IN WANGANUI NOW MORE THAN £2OO I “I should like to say that the result I must surely have exceeded all expeci tations as, with an amount of £1 15s 3d to hand to-day, representing a I voluntary collection on the part of the I employees of the Wanganui Woollen Mills, the £2OO mark has been passI • cl " reported the Mayor, Mr. V . J. i Rogers, to the City Council last night, I regarding the result of the Flag 2ay ' appeal to raise Christmas comforts 1 for the troops in camp. "The actual total sum collected is £2OO 3s 4d, and this amount has been remitted to the headquarters of the appeal in Wellington,” His Worship added. “When it is borne in mind that the collection was confined to the business area of the city and some of the local industrial concerns, and that an organised canvass did not take place in any of the suburbs, the sum produced" must be regarded as most I gratifying. "As Mayor, and on behalf of the Zone Committee, which has under control the fund raised for patriotic purposes in this area, I desire to ledge the excellent co-opera-tion and ready services which were forthcoming in aid of the appeal. To the Red Cress Society for the use of their rooms as issuing and receiving depot, for the helpful services of the ladies who acted as collectors, to Mr. Seddon and his assistants of the Reirnol Soldiers' Association, and to all who contributed in any way to make the appeal such an outstanding success, I wish to return warm and grateful thanks.”
