MARTON HIGH SCHOOL

AN ATTRACTIVE DISPLAY MUCH PUBLIC INTEREST SHOWN The pupils of the Marton District High School staged a very attractive display of their handwork in the assembly hall and infants’ departments on Thursday afternoon. There was a large attendance of parents and visitors, who were keenly interested in the work displayed, which was favourably commented upon. The primary department staged basket, poker, beaten brass, pewter, enamel, and leather exhiibts of a very high order. The art needlework, sewing, and woolwork was very neatly executed. Neat and novel designs in plasticene displayed a good deal ol ingenuity. In the secondary department the exhibits were of a very high standard, including beaten brass screens, boxes and fenders, sea green stools, leather purses, and an excellent painting by one of the pupils. The woodwork display was a credit to the boys who are taking this course, being excellently iinisheu.

The wool-weaving looms at work attracted considerable attention, and the young pupils manipulating the looms proved to be very adept, and several scarfs have been finished in honeysuckle, diamond, and old English rose patterns.

The ability displayed by the infants is simply marvellous, and this department had a varied and miscellaneous exhibit, including models in fancy paper, papier mache, raffia, chalk and pastel drawings, woollen balls and Christmas cards, also a model depicting “The Three Little Figs..” During the afternoon the senior primary boys gave an exhibition or drill, and tne senior secondary and junior secondary girls gave a finisned display of physical drill, and were heartily applauded. The senior primary girls also took part in a folk dance. The programme was very much appreciated by the audience.
