ROWING

ARAMOHO BOATING CLUB DALZELL FOURS CONTESTS FIRST ROUND COMPLETED The first round of the Dalzell Fours trophy was completed by the Aramoho Boating Club last night. Good weather and water conditions prevailed. The following are the results:— J. Brown (str.), J. Fothergill, R. Francis, J. Bellis (bow) defeated J. Stokes (str.). F. Laird, F. Managh, G. Ravenwood (bow) by one length after a splendid race. Stokes gained a slight advantage from "he start, but, as soon as both crews settled down, Brown had made up the leeway. Rowing stroke for stroke, both crews fought hard for the lead, but neither could draw away until over half the distance had been completed. Brown, rowing a slightly longer stroke, managed to forge ahead at Brunswick Road, and passing the boathouse had a half a lengths le’ad. Stokes called on his men, but could not make any impression on the leaders, and Brown went further ahead to gain a verdict of a lengtli from the judge. J. Jeromson (sir.), A. W. Clark, V. Gooding, J. Verrail (bow) defeated P. Stowers (str.), J. Halligan, R. Boyland, M. Beauchamp (bow) by two lengths. Both crews got away to another splendid start, but Jeromson soon began to draw away. Stowers could make no impression and Jeromson gradually increased his lead to win comfortably by two lengths. The semi-finals will be rowed tonight. The draw is as follow: Firmin rows Jeromson; Brown rows Pepper. Crews are reminded to be at the boatshed at 6 p.m. sharp.
