CHRISTMAS TEA

FOR ORPHANAGE CHILDREN. ARRANGED BY LEAGUE OF MOTHERS. The bright faces and happy laughter of 27 children from the Wanganui Orphanage, more than rewarded the committee and members of the Wanganui branch of the League of Mothers for their efforts in arranging a Christmas tea yesterday between the haurs of four and five. The little guests were escorted to the large table which looked attractive with vases of sweet peas in varying shades, jellies, ice creams, cordials, oranges, cakes and other eatables loved by children. Each child was handed a paper hat. and these, with the paper serviettes, matched the flowers on the table. Christmas lilies, blue and gold flowers and balloons (the League of Mothers colours) decorated the hall and in one corner stood a large Christmas tree laden with gifts, which were later distributed. The tree was given by Mr Cox (city gardener) and the ice cream was also donated. The matron of the orphanage, Miss Copping and submatron, Miss Goile were present, the former thanking the league members for their kindness to the children. Several of the older children also thanked the committee for the happy party. The loan of the hall for the occasion was kindly granted by the Returned Soldiers’ Association.
