MASSED BANDS
OCTAGONAL DISPLAY
SPECTACLE ARRANGED FOR COOK’S GARDENS
Fourteen bands will take part in a spectacular octagonal serpentine marching display at Cook’s Gardens on Sunday afternoon next. There will be eight brass bands and six Highland pipe bands, the visiting bands coming from Dannevirke, Hawera, Palmerston North, New Plymouth, and Feilding. The demonstration will be in charge of Mr. Gladstone Hill, president of the Wellington Bands’ Association.
When a similar display was presented at Wellington recently there was an attendance of 20,000 people and in Palmerston North the showgrounds was filled to capacity. Cook’s Gardens, with its terraces looking down on the green oval, is an ideal spot for such a display. More than 100 pipers in single file will wend their way in the form of a serpentine between the ranks of the massed bands to the music of the pipes.
