WOODVILLE NEXT

Saturday And Monday Fixture FORM AT FEILDING NOTES AND COMMENTS The Woodville District Jockey Club s fixture on Saturday and Monday next will be the last important pre-holiday meeting in the southern portion of the North Island. Weights for the first day of the Woodville meeting appear this morning. and acceptances are due to close at 8 o’clock this evening. The Waipa Racing Clul>>s meeting will be held at Te Awamutu on Saturday of next week. Acceptances are due next Friday. This meeting is generally accepted as a good form guide for the Ellerslie fixture. Stratford nominations are due on Monday of next week. The brilliant two-year-old Phaleron sutiered a recurrence of soreness after his race in the Cambria Handicap on the first day of the Auckland Racing Clubs mid-spring meeting. An attempt will be made to prepare him for the Great Northern Foal Stakes at Christmas, but his prospects do not appear to be hopeful. It is understood that the purchase price of Yours Truly, who was sold and shipped to Sydney last week, was luck) guineas in cash, with two contingencies of £250 each. According to an English exchange, the Aga Knan has refused £SU,OUO for Bahram, winner of the Two Thousand Guineas, the Derby, and the St. Leger in 1935. At the Waugaringa (South Australia# Picnic meeting Mr. M. Casey rode the winners of the nine races, one of which was the Donkey Derby, in which were 28 starters. Nine riders for nine wins must be a record for an amateur. Kilometre, who won the maiden event at Feilding last Thursday, is a three-year-old full-brother to Lickem, and he was and is owned by his trainer, O. Cox. Chary, who was a winner first time up at Feilding on Thursday, has already been withdrawn from the Grea» Northern Foal Stakes, and he will do his holiday racing at Manawatu. He is a shade small, and is not to be hurried into the top class. The racing days of Hinerawe may be over, as the live-year-old Robespierre —Oratrix mare suffered injuries from which she may not recover completely when shipped from Wellington to the New Zealand Cup meeting last month. At present she is in A. J. Martin’s stable at Riccarton. but though improving, she may have to end up at the stud. Hinerawe was a useful staying mare and a member of a good family. Her grandam. Oratress, won the New Zealand Cup as a live-year-old in 1920, and her dam, Oratrix, won the same race at the same age in 1928. She was bred and is owned by Mr. R. J. Murphy, of Wellington. Ringling, winner of the Oroua Nursery at Feilding on Saturday, is a half-sister by Ringmaster to Varimond, and she is the first of Ringmaster’s progeny to score this season. On Thursday, Ringling was unable to foot it with Chary and Talenta in the juvenile event, but she jumped out smartly on Saturday and gave nothing else a chance, winning by four lengths in heavy going, and she could have made the margin a wider one. Prior to racing at Feilding Ringling had had only one start, finishing third behind Gold Daie and Saxon Tor at Stratford, where three-year-olds were eligible for the juvenile event. Having his second start, Brahman returned a good dividend when he beat all but Ringling in the Oroua Nursery at Feilding. On the first day, when he made his debut, the halfbrother to Indian Sun ran a satisfactory race, finishing just behind Ringling, who was fifth. He was the outsider of the field of seven in the Oroua Nursery, and his supporters shared a dividend larger than that received by backers of the winner. A big Bulandshar colt. Brahman will develop into a useful sort. The Fordell-trained Tuatara impi eased at Feilding last Thursday by his courage in holding off Saxon Tors sustained challenge in the Filzroy Hack Handicap. The Lord Quex gelding uas in receipt of 151 b from his more experienced rival, but still he won with more in reserve than the neck margin suggested. Tuatara has gone on improving since he won his firsi race, at Stratford a month ago, anc his progress in holiday engagement: will be followed with interest. The two juvenile winners at Fending, Chary and Ringling, are engaged in the two-year-old event at Woodville next Saturday. Another youngster in whom there will be a good deal of interest is the Wanganuitrained Ringcraft (Ringmaster•- Midinette), who has been placed in his two starts under silk. Chary, winner of the Feildinj. Juvenile Stakes, is an Inflation coll out of the Kilbroney mare Idle Talk who is a half-aister to Blackmail, e North Island Challenge Stakes winner. Chary showed plenty of earl] speed, and in spite of the fact thal Talenta headed him at one stage he shook the filly off and won nicely Chary is still another of the juvenile winners from G. W. New’s stable. The Wanganui-trained War Lap was lather unfortunate in being requir’d to cover extra ground in her twe essays at Feilding. He beat all but the dividend-payers, Notium and Tableau on the opening day. and his numbei was hosited again on Saturday, bu only for fourth placing behind Colone Bogey, Notium and Kaiwaka. The Lapidary gelding is improving wit I racing and he may be expected to de well on the Taranaki holiday circuit.
