WANGANUI CLUB STROKE MATCH LAST SATURDAY ADVERSE WEATHER Under adverse weather conditions, high winds, and occasional rain showers, the first stroke match of the summer series was played. After the beneficial rains of the past two weeks, the course conditions approach those that prevail in the late autumn. The greens are covered with a splendid sward of grass and the fairways are playing very accurately. The rank growth in the rough spoiled the cards of several who strayed trom the straight and narrow, but the fact that 14 cards of net 79 or less were put in. shows that the general standard of golf was, under the conditions prevailing exceedingly good. The best cards were:—P. Stuii, 98--26—72; U. G. Williams, 77—4—(3; J. B. Jack, 85—11—74; J, L. Barriball, 85 —10—75; C. Bristol, 83—8—75; H. Cox, 86—11—75; F. H. Bell, 80—4—76; E. Goldsbury, 89—13—76; V. Fennell, 91—15—76. On Saturday next a four-ball bestball bogey match will be played. Competitors must arrange for partners and opponents. Summer Cup The draw is posted at the clubhouse. The Hist two rounds must be played before December 16. Competitors are asked to arrange their games as soon as possible. SEAFIELD COUNTRY CLUB CLOSE OF WINTER SEASON PRESENTATION OF PRIZES Saturday marked the conclusion ot the winter season at the Sealieltl Country Golt Club, and the day was remarkable for changeable weather, sultry heat, intermntent with hign wind and heavy showers. In spite or the elements a number of players completed Canadian foursomes, the usual game for sucn an occasion. The winners were found in Miss M. McGregor and T. Casey with a net of <3. Vvnen all were in, the players adjourned to the dining-room tor prizegiving. The club captain, Mr. a. L. Kitto, after thanking the members and visitors for their attendance, gave a brief resume of the club’s activities during the season, remarking further that owing to the late start, the membership had not attained the proportions anticipated, but was growing steadily both in the ladies' ciub anu tlie men's club. The improvements in the course, with bunkering, etc., were remarked on. Mr. Kitto stated that as the most efficient and economical metnod of attaining the upkeep ot the course had been ascertained and while the high standard would be maintained, it had been dedecided to make a reduction in the subscription to the men's club. Mr. .Kitto then called upon Mrs. Mewburn, patroness of the ladies' club, to present the season’s prizes. The ladies’ prize list was: - Senior Champion.—Miss P. Bell; run-ner-up, Miss Tizard. Junior Champion.—Mrs. Haggie; runner-up, Miss Tawse. C Graue Champion.—Miss Haggie; runner-up, Mrs. Hatchett, Silver medal, Miss P. Bell; bronze medal, Miss Tawse. Eclectic.—Miss B. Bell. Mewburn Cup.—Miss Elavell. L.G.U. matches were won by the following members:—Mrs. O'Hailoran (2), Mrs. Haggie (1), Mrs, Woods (1), Miss Bell (4), Miss Tizard (2), Miss Cleland (1). Miss Tawse (1), Miss Irwin (2), Miss Haggie (1). Trophies were presented to the club by the following:—Mrs. Mewburn, Mrs. Lamont, Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Irwin, Mrs. Woods, Mrs. Crichton, Mrs. Haggie and Miss Tizard. Copley, While Horse Cup.—N. Kendall. Eclectic Cup.—C. H. Bensel. June Mixed Foursome.—Mrs. Bensel and A. R. Kitto. Wanganui Aerated Water Company's Trophy.—G. Harding. December Mixed Foursome.—Miss McGregor and T. Casey. The gratitude of the club was expressed by Mr. D. N. Anderson, vicepresident .A ihe club, to the committee and various officials who had contributed to the successful carrying out of the club games during the season. He also congratulated ciub members, who have taken high honours in provincial and Dominion tournaments, namely Miss P. Bell, Messrs T. Casey, R. F. and A. R. Kitto. The thanks of the club were also due to the Wanganui Aerated Water Company, Messrs. S. Irwin, Mr. Lamont, Mr. Kitto, and Mr. Bensel for trophies. The old Seatield Championship Cup, held by R. F, Kitto, and the Runnerstrum Cup, held by Mr. Irwin, have been returned by these gentlemen, who have expressed the hope that the annual competitions will be carried on for many years. Mr. Anderson concluded by calling those present to record a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Crichton, whose unremitting attention had so largely contributed to the pleasure and comfort of those using the club. Mr. Tallis returned thanks on behalf of the visitors. Mr. Crichton returned thanks for the appreciative remarks, and assured them that both he and Mrs. Crichton would endeavour to live up to the nice things that had been said and would be pleased to hear of any suggestion that would tend to improve the happy relations that now exist.
