BIBLE CLASS RALLY. (Own Correspondent.) WAVERLEY, Oct. 27. On Labour Day the Taranaki District Presbyterian Bible Class rally was held al Waverley. Over a hundred delegates were present from all parts of Taranaki a.s well as a number from Westmere and favoured by the perfect weather conditions a most enjoyable day was spent. Members of St. Andrews’ Bible class and friends provided generous hospitality throughout ihe day, all meals being served at St. Andrew’s Hall. The ladies were at work from early morning preparing for meals and their efforts wore much appreciated by the visitors. The chief speaker for the day was lhe Rev. A. C. McLean, of St. Paul’s Church, Wanganui, who addressed the gathering in the morning and again at 7 p.m. A meeting for Sunday school Teachers and leaders was held in the aiternoon. and was addressed by the Rev. E. F. Frr (Patea, and Mr. J. Hunter. A sports mooting was hold after lunch on the Recreation Ground, and the shield for the inter-class competition was won on points by the Waverley Bible class, who received applause from their fellow contestants. Tea was held at 5.30 p.m. in St. Andrew's Hall and a bright, and happy scene it proved, many members renewing old friendships. A total of 140 , answered to the roll call. GIRLS’ AUXILIARY. The monthly meeting of the Girls' .\uxiliary was held at the Manse on Thursday evening, their being an attendance of 14 members, 'rhe meeting opened with the Girls’ Auxiliary Hymn, and then the Bible reading and prayer. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The secretary then read the correspondence and notes from Auckland, of . (he Central Committee meeting. Members brought along their gifts for the Maori Christmas Bo.x and also clothes for the New-Hebrides to bei sent away this month. After sewing for an hour supper was served by Misses Jean Morrison and Thelma Aiken and the meeting closed in the usual way. Members are reminded that the final meeting for the year will be held next month, when it is hoped there will, be a good attendance. SOCIAL AFTERNOON. On Friday members of the P.W.M.U. held a social afternoon in Hie St. Andrew's Hall when there was a good attendance. Members brought along clothes for the Maori mission fields, and a. produce stall was also in evidence which did brisk business. Oriental goods were on show as usual and in charge of Mrs. Milne. Mrs. G. McGregor presided, and welcomed visitors and new members. A letter was also read from Hie local Bible Class thanking P.W.M.U. members for their help at the rally hold on Labour Day in Waverley, An enjoyable programme was presented, after which tea was served. ST. STEPHEN’S SOCIAL CLUB. On Friday afternoon the fortnightly meeting of the Social Club was held in St. Stephen's Hall. There was a good attendance of members, and a. bring-and-buy produce afternoon provided funds for the hoop-la stall at the bazaar to he held next month. Mrs. Barrow presided, WAVERLEY TENNIS AND < ROQUET c lub. The annual meeting of the Waverley Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club was held recently in lhe Town Board rooi i. The president, Mr. A. J. Dickie, was in the chair and there were 27 members present. The balance-sheet showed a. credit of £39 to carry forward to lhe new season as against £2 2s brought, forward from the year 1937-38. The increased membership brought the totals to: tennis 62, croquet 23; life members 4, honorary 4. The following were elected new members: Mrs. Brabent; Miss Joyce Sheppard; Miss Shirley Dallison and Messrs. G. P. Irving, F. Coker; R. Newland and Shaw. A motion that the general committee be increased to eight was carried. The election of officers for the ensuing season resulted: Patron, Dr. P. V. Graves (re-elected); president, Mr. A. J. Dickie (re-elected); vice-pre-sident, Mrs. S. Bromiley and Mr. D. Newland (re-elected); club captain, Mr. G. A. Doig; vice-captain, Mr. J. P. Stewart; hon. secretary, Mr. J. D. Leckie (re-elected); hon. treasurer, Mr. J. C. Smith (re-elected); general committee, Messrs. E. C. Dickie and W. Mathews (both re-elected) also

A motion that members of the club, who are called up or who enlist for army service be transferred to the honorary membership list and that a portion of their subscription be refunded was carried. The matter of opening day was left in the hands of the committee to decide.
