PATEA DEFENCE RIFLE CLI B ANNUAL MEETING Mr. N. W. Mitchel], presiding at. the annual meeting of the Patea Defence Rifle Club on Saturday, congratulated the club on their successful year, much of the financial success being due to the handsome donation from the Rifle Association. The new range was a tremendous success and, due to the co-operation of members, they had a very good range. They had thought one target would be enough, but enthusiasm increased so much that they had now three targets. He hoped this cordial co-operation and enthusiasm would be evinced this coming season. So far they had had no assistance from the Defence Department but believed they would get. assistance particularly in view of the international, situation. Membership increased considerably and they had a large number of young and enthusiastic shots whose improvement, was no doubt due to the coaching of Mr. D. Roots. Veryfew other clubs had the honour and privilege of the New Zealand champion shot’s assistance. The club was fortunate in having the assistance of Mr. I. Honeyfield, who not only gave the use of his land but donated a handsome trophy, to be called the •'Pine Lodge" trophy. Ammunition supplies would be a burden this season as little help could be expected from the Defence Department and they would be allowed to purchase none at. all. He was glad the club had Ihe co-operation of the public. It was decided Io open an account, with one of the trading banks, Mr. D. Roots and I he secretary to operate the accou n t. Election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. M. Carey; president, Mr. N. Mitchell; vice-presidents, Messrs. D. Roots and G. Hilliar; auditor, Mr. E. F. Hemingway; committee, -J. Huston, C. Hilliar, A. Rond. .1. Bates, L. Davidson. T. Floyd. The secretary was left lo the committee to appoint. Range warden, Mr. A. Bond.
