MARTON. Mr. G. H. Andrew's name appears 1 in this week’s Gazette as having been granted a temporary commission as acting-Pilot Officer. Mr. Andrew is lhe son of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Andrew, Wanganui Road, Marton. A popular member of the younger set, Miss Jean Byres, who is to be married shortly, was the guest of honour at a green and (ream gift evening, hostessed by Miss Jean Fyfe, at her parents’ residence, Pukepapa Road. The guest was becomingly attired in a black gown relieved by a red shoulder spray. Dancing, interspersed with card games and amusing competitions, was the order of the evening. Before opening the parcels brought by the 40-odd guests, the bride-to-be was presented with an artistic wash-day bouquet, the numerous and useful other gifts testifying ’ to the high esteem in which the guest of the evening is held. Mr. Wilton humorously responded on Miss Byres’ behalf. The music for the dances was kindly supplied by Mr. and Mrs. Berry. .MATAROA. Miss D. R. Oxnam, who has been assistant relieving teacher at the Mataroa School left on Friday for her i home at Palmerston North. Prior to her departure she was the recipient of , a tangible token of esteem from the | pupils. j A wedding of interest to residents of Mataroa took place at Nelson on j Saturday when Miss Marjorie Bartlett of Silverhope was married to Mr. Vernon Moore, who was formerly a ' teacher at the Rongoiti School, Mataroa.
