WANGANUI ASSOCIATION MEN'S COMPETITION OPENS Saturday afternoon marked the opening of Hie 1939-40 baseball season, ten men’s learns playing in the competition. The women’s competition will start on November 11. All teams looked smart in their uniforms of various colours and pleasing interest was taken by' supporters of the sport, a good crowd watching the games. Results wore as follow, the figures representing the scores in each of the seven innings: Star B 26, v. Harriers I» I I The Star B loam showed great ini- ' provement and easily beat Harriers B by 26 Io 11. Harriers’ lidding was poor and bad throwing accounted for a lot of Star’s runs. Outed 9 The game was a very keen one. Harriers being four runs down at the beginning of the last innings. Wanganui East 38 Wanganui East easily outpointed Star A. In the Star team there have been several changes this year. Wanganui East team showed good combination. the result of plenty of practice. Pirates, although by far the best team, did not discourage the newly-formed Giants team and gave it a good coaching game. The Gir nts team was only formed three days ago and should develop into a good team. The two now Harrier women’s teams practised together, but no score was taken. A meeting was held after the game and names and colours selected. The teams are to be called Northern Aces and Southern Aces, and the colours are grey and old rose. The Northern Aces will hold a practice at Brunswick Road. Aramoho, on Wednesday evening at 6.30 o'clock.
