Meteorological, Office, Wellington, Wednesday, August 9, 3 p.m. General Situation.—A complex disturbance covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand area, the lowest pressures being to the west of lhe South Island. Forecast. —Winds: Light and variable over the southern half of the South Island, with southerlies predominating, otherwise moderate to strong north-westerlies later changing to westerly or posibly south-westerly. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rough north of Westport and offshore on the east coast of the North Island; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea: Variable winds at first in the southern portion, otherwise moderate to strong westerlies; seas moderate in the South and rather rough in the North. Weather: Cloudy to overcast and unsettled, with rain at times in most places, some heavy falls likely in central districts. Temperatures moderate in the South and mild in the North, but later becoming cooler generally. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John's Hill, report for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday: Bright sunshine, 1 hour 20 minutes. Rainfall. .47. Temperature: Maximum, 60deg. Fahr.; minimum, 50 deg.
