SYSTEM OF DIRECT NEGOTIATION WRONG VIEW Ol' REMARKS STATEMENT BY MR. POLSON ( Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 8. • ‘l’m sorry if Mr. H. D. Acland [gathered from my remarks that the ‘scheme unanimously supported by the [Empire Producers’ Conference in Sydney was intended to do away with !the system of direct negotiation with 'the British Government through the J Meat Board,” said Mr. W. J. Polson, ;M.P. (Stratford) to-day in reply to I Mr. Aciand’s comment on Mr. Pol- | son’s remarks at the Primary Profducers’ Council last week. j “On the contrary, the Meat Board • would undoubtedly be in a stronger position if it would appoint its repre1 sentative to the commodity council as an official body in New Zealand is [ dealing with mutton and lamb. The function of the council would be tc ■ arrange for the regulation of Empire . and probably foreign products, and also into Britain, in order to avoid j restriction. The federation cannot have studied the proposed plan or it would not be offering the strongest possible objection tc it as Mr. Acland 1 suggests.”
