WOMEN S INSTITI T E Mi.xs McKenzie presided over a fail attendance of members at the June meeting. The ground was heavily coated with snow and many members had gone to the Palmerston North Show. However, with members sitling round a log lire tne meeting soon became enthusiastic. A good deal of correspondence was dealt with, including a letter from the local school re talks on various subjects to be given to secondary school girls. This was discussed, and several members volunteered help. A complete list will be made alter the July meeting. I The Meuical Superintendent oi Mental Hospitals wrote thanking members for a case of gifts sent to friendless woman patients. It was decided to accede to the suggestion in "Home and Country'’ journal re donations towards staging countrywomen’s exhibits at the Centennial Exhibition. Mrs. Mills, of the drama circle, spoke of forthcoming production, and (invited to meet and discuss same, [ The competitions for shortbread re- ■ suited, Mrs. .1. H. Thompson 1, Mrs. McMillan 2, Mrs. Jenkins 3; and for three buttonholes on calico, Mrs. J. H. Thopmson 1, Miss McKenzie 2. A car of Awahuri members will entertain at that meeting. i The National Anthem brought a happy meeting to a close. W.D.FJ . CARD EVENING The first of a series of euchre evenings for the W.D.F.U. was held last Saturday. The winners were Mrs. W. Evans and Mr. G. Truman, while the consolations prizes went to Miss T. Evans and F. Ellen.
