PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS

MOTORISTS’ COMPLAINT REQUESTS TO CITY COUNCIL The Automobile Association (Wanganui* suggested to last night's meeting of the Wanganui City Council that the double parallel crossings at Ridgway Street. Maria Place andGuyton Street should be eliminated, as it is considered that one crossing on one side of the Avenue at the intersection is sufficient. That crossing might, with advantage, be established across Maria Place, Guyton Street and Ridgway Street. The association also considered that the safety zones in the Avenue were a danger and a menace to traffic, and that"movable signs and marked places on the road were as great a protection to pedestrians as the safety zones. After giving the suggestions full consideration, it was decided that the association be thanked for its proposals and advised that the Works Committee considers that the present pedestrian crossings should be continued for a further period, and that in regard to the safety zones, it cannot see its way to recommend a change being made.
