WAITING LIST APPROVED
NEW PLYMOUTH HOSPITAL INFLUX OF PATIENTS EXPECTED [ Per Tress Association 1 NEW PLYMOUTH, June 20. Expecting that the New Plymouth Hospital will not be able to accommodate all those who seek free hospital treatment under the Social Security scheme after July 1, the Taranaki Hospital Board to-day decided to establish a waiting list for patients and to retain a system whereby a patient is admitted to the hospital on the authority of a private doctor. The medical superintendent, Dr. C. A. Taylor, reported to the board that he felt that admissions to the hospital would definitely increase. This would mean that a waiting list would have to be set up and patients would have to be discharged from the hospital earlier than at present. He believed that the board should still insist that patients be admitted only on a private doctor’s entrance note and his recommendations was approved of by the board. Criticism was expressed by members that the board had not been notified officially of coming into operation of the hospital benefits on July 1 and it was decided to write to the Health Department asking for confirmation of Press reports to that effect.
