DEATH IN WANGANUI HOSPITAL
BOATSWAIN OF HOMEBOAT AFTER SERIOUS OPERATION The death occurred in the Wanganui Hospital yesterday morning of the boatswain of the Federal Company's steamer Hertford, Mr. Angus Martin, of Scotland, aged 30 years, following an operation for acute appendicitis. Stricken while the Hertford was loading in the Wanganu. roadstead last week, Mr. Martin was attended at 10 a.m. on Wednesday by Dr. Douglas Wilson. The aid of the harbour board’s pilot launch was enlisted and within the short space of an hour and a-half Mr. Martin was admitted to the Wanganui Hospital. An operation was performed, but he failed to rally and died at 8 a.m. yesterday. The Hertford finished loading at Wellington and sailed last Friday for London.
Mr. Martin had intended to sign off his ship at Wellington and settle in New Zealand. He was single, and had no relatives living in the Dominion.
