Lamb, aged 37, tobacco-worker, and John Angus Patterson, aged 31, labourei. both Australians, who pleaded guilty to stowing away on lhe Zealandic on its passage from Melbourne to New Plymouth. The men gave themselves up to the boatswain at 7.15 a.m. the day after the vessel left and offered to work but were not allowed to. The men stated in Court that as a result of the Victorian bush fires they were unable to obtain work and thought they would try New Zealand.
