WANGANUI RACECOURSE EXTENSIVE PROGRAMME WELCOME TO VISITORS Undaunted by wet weather, more than 50 young farmers from many parts of the North Island encamped at the Wanganui Racecourse yesterday for the educational camp week of the Wanganui District Committee of the New Zealand Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. In welcoming the visitors last night, the Mayor of Wanganui, Mr. W. J. Rogers, referred to the rapid strides the Young Farmers’ Club movement had made in the past three years. He paid a tribute to the keen and active qualities of the members and expressed the hope that their stay in Wanganui would long remain a happy

memory. A welcome was also extended by Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P., who said that he had always admired the work of the movement, in fitting the young men to their own particular vocation and engendering in them a greater liking tor their natural heritage, the soil. Their work as club members was definitely bringing forward and encouraging the future leaders of the farming community, said Mr. Cotterill. Ho wished the camp favourable weailKr and every success. This morning two parties from the camp will visit Kempthorne, Prosser and Company's fertiliser works and the Wanganui Woollen Mills at Aramoho. In the afternoon visits »ill be made to wool stores and the Southern Cross biscuit factory and flour mills, and this evening a sc<md film exhiibtion will be given at ihe camp, starting at 7.30, by Mr. S. Freeman, Dominion organising secretary of the Y.F.C. To-morrow a full tour will be made of the Fordell district, which will include a mole drainage demonstration, and inspection of stud stock, crops and pastures at Messrs. Cranstone, Hunter and Mitchell’s properties. Members will be free for the evening, Thursday's programme will begin with a visit to a timber mill, followed by a trip to. Okoia, where the Okoia Dairy Company's piggery will be inspected and a lecture will be given by Mr. C. M. Sorrenson, supervisor of the Taranaki Pig Council area. A highlight of the week will be the official dinner at the camp on Thursday night. Among those expected to attend are the Minister of Agricultore (the Hon. W. Lee Martin), the Director-General of ■ Agriculture (Dr. A. H. Cockayne), Messrs. J. B. Cotterill, E. B. Gordon and 11. Dickie (Members of Parliament for Wanganui, Rangitikei and Patea respectively), and rep. sentativeg of the Wanganui Jockey Club, A. and P. Association and branches of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. At 8.30 p.m. a Young Farmers’ Club ball will be held in the Druids’ Hall. On Friday a full day tour of the Bulls and Marton districts, including inspection of the Ohakea Aerodrome and a visit to the stud flocks of Messrs. C. E. Vile and A. S. Wheeler, Leedstown, when a demonstration will be given. The night will be left free. The camp will conclude on Saturday morning, when those attending will leave by train for their homes.
