OBITUARY
MISS MARIE PRIDEAUX-PRIDHAM PALMERSTON N., June 17. Much regreat will be felt, particularly by pupils and past pupils of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School, at the news of the death of Miss Marie Prideaux-Pridham, which occurred in Wellington yesterday. Miss Prideaux - Pridham, who was the elder daughter of Mrs. Eva Prideaux - Pridham, of Northlands, Wellington, was in her 28th. year, and had had a brilliant scholastic career. She was educated in Wanganui and al Victoria University College, where she took her M.A. degree with honours in French and English. She also attended the Teachers' Training College and, before coming to Palmerston North, taught in the South Island for a time. She was appointed to the staff of the Girls’ High School in May, 1934, and was there until the end of 1937, when ill-health compelled her to apply for leave of absence. Acting on medical advice,she later resigned and took up a position on the staff of the Correspondence School. In January, this year, she entered hospital for a slight operation but complications developed and she did not recover. During her time in Palmerston North Miss Prideaux-Pridham gained the associate and licentiate diplomas of Trinity College, London, in elocution, passing the latter with honours. She had a particularly pleasing voice and was a valuable member of the Repertory and Little Theatre Societies. She was also a very promising poet and had several of her verses set to music. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister, Miss Patricia Prideaux-Pridham.
