PATEA PLUNKET SOCIETY
“May has been the biggest month 1 ever remember,” said Mrs. R. W. Haddow, president, when commenting on the nurse’s report at the monthly meeting of the Patea Plunket Society on Thursday. A welcome was extended to tj|e Whenuakura members, Mesdames Allen and Wynne. An invitation was received for the Patea W.I. birthday. Mesdames L. Honeyfield and R. W. Haddow were appointed delegates to the Provincial Conference at New Plymouth on August 1. Mrs. Haddow was nominated for the Central Council. Mesdames L. Honeyfield, R. Hunger, T. E. Roberts, J. N. Anderson, D. Roots and B. Hazeltine were elected Executive Committee. Mesdames G. Broker and G. Pettigrew were appointed House Committee. Mesdames T. Nelson and R. Mays, the retiring House Committee, were thanked for their year’s work, Mrs. Pettigrew for making cushions, and a letter of thanks is to be sent Mr. McClymont for attention to the carpet. Discussion was held on the Sir Truby King Memorial Fund, and it was decided to acknowledge donations through the Press. A letter of thanks is to be sent Mr. E. F. Hemingway for his courtesy over the appeal. The committee were in favour of purchasing a car, and the executive were directed to meet the Advisory Board to discuss the matter. Miss M. Grieve, Plunket nurse, reported for May that Patea babies on books were 68, pre-school children 98, at outstations 79 babies and 138 preschool children. New cases at Patea eight, mothers and eight babies, at outsat ions four mothers and four babies. Visits to Patea homes 101, to outstations 14. Visits to Patea rooms 133 adults, 103 babies, 50 pre-school; advice by telephone 61. Visits to outstation rooms: 138 adults, 114 babies, 52 pre-school children. Sales totalled £7 ss.
During May tnere were nve imams in Karitane Home at Wanganui, four of which returned, to their homes very much benefited. The fifth was still awaiting discharge at the end of the month. It has been usual in this district to leave all babies on charts up till their second birthday and in order to have uniformity throughout New Zealand I have this month placed all babies from eighteen months onwards on pre-school children’s cards. This has considerably altered the totals for the month but compares most favourably with the totals on charts and cards as against visits to homes, offices and telephone advice given. The general condition of all mothers, babies and pre-school children was satisfactory. The nurse thanked all who had given attention to the rooms, and the Borough Council for attention to the lawns. Those present were Mesdames R. W. Haddow (presiding, D. Roots, L. Adams, L. Austin, G. Macken, R. M. Stevens, S. Priest, G. Francis, G. Pettigrew, T. Nelson, R. Mays, Allen, J. Wynne, C. P. Bates, G. Broker, J. N. Anderson, I. Jones and L. Honeyfield (hon. secretary). Apologies were received from Mesdames F. Bostock, T. E. Roberts, C. S. Martin, A. Smiles, T. Anderson and Miss A. Harris.
