j BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY FORMED. (Own Correspondent.) WAVERLEY, June 16. | I At a meeting held at Wave .’ny it. ' was decided to form a Waverley and district Beautifying Society. ‘Il w.'Jl endeavour to preserve beautiful scenery and historical sites, vheiner public or private, to prevent the unnecessary destruction of bush, to incourage tree planting, and the general beautifying of public reserves. Officers elected were: President,, Mr. O. J. Hawken. Vice-presidents, Mrs. H. P. Metcalfe and Mr. T. J. Davies. Committee: Mesdames W. G. Belton J. D. Newland, H. Boyer, W. Morrison. K. Hunt, P. H. Fowler and G. H Graham, Messiv. Don Chamber.am, E. R. E. Ross, D. G. Flowef, T. ’ Linehan, F. J. Belton, Fred Johnston, ’F. Sheppard, E. C. Hone, E. Denson and C. Dickie, treasurer, F. J. Belton; secretary, Don Chamo-'.-lain; auditor, F. Sheppard; solicitor, H. Cowdell. It was decided to leave in the hands of the committee the matter of registering the society as an incorporated 1 body. The president suggested to the committee that it endeavoured to get as many members as possible prior to the ! next committee meeting, and at that, meeting a plan could be considered to encourage the public to become members. ’ It was resolved that the president and treasurer should meet the Patea County Council and seek its co-opera-tion and support, and also that the president and the treasurer and Mr. ■ T. J. Davis should meet the Waver- : ley Town Board at its next meeting . with the same object. i Mr. Belton suggested that lhe Wan- • ganui City Council might also be ap- , proached for its sympathetic help, . which he felt sure would be lorthr coming. Mr. Belton suggested it , might be worth while, considering , establishing the society's own nursery, possibly at the Waverley School. t A vote of thanks to Mr. Belton for : his interest in the formation of the society was passed.
