GREAT SECOND SPELL

WAVERLEY EVENS SCORES WITH TECHNICAL 0.8. WAVERLEY SAW LITTLE OF THE BALL. (Own Correspondent.) WAVERLEY. May 20. Waverley-Waitotara and Technical Old Boys drew on the Waverley Domain, the score being It all. The play was fairly even. Technical, considering the opportunities it had. should have won, but Waverley proved that it is still a force to be reckoned with. Technical Old Boys got. 75 per cent. !of the ball, but did not make good use of it. The handling of the backs at times was not of the best, knockons being 100 frequent. M. Shewan was very dangerous when on the move and the service from the base of the scrum left little to be desired. Towards the end, however, the Technical Old Boys forwards tired noticeably and Waverley did better in the second spell. As a matter of fact Technical Old Boys were very lucky to come out with a draw as they were on the defence most of the second half. Considering that Waverley receiveci a limited share of the ball it did well and made the most of the opportunities. The first try came from a slab punt to the wings by Best for R. Booker to field nicely and go over. He failed to convert. The next score was made by Technical Old Boys. From the kick-off they opened out the play for A. Taylor to score a nice try, which was converted by Guy. Technical again scored, this tim* from a forward scramble, M. Shewan being let away. Guy failed to convert, making the score Technical 8. Waverley 3, at half-time. On resuming play Waverley played a different game, and the forwards looked more like the old Waverley pack. They soon had Technical playing on the defence. From a scrum in Technical Old Boys' twenty-five they heeled for M. Dickie to kick through. The ball rebounded oft.' a goal post for J. Campion to score. Booker failed with the kick. From the resuming kick-off Technical Old Boys pressed and through mishandling by Booker and Lupton the attackers scored the fry which Guy failed to convert. The score was then 11 to 6 in Technical Old Boys’ favour. With 10 minutes to go it was all Waverley, and the forwards heeled to send the hall out to Best, who short punted for M. Dickie fo follow through and score beside the post. H. Walker converted and the score was 11 all. The-final whistle found Technical defending. For Waverley W. Powell. Leith and L. McGonagle played well in the forwards, while Best and M. Dickie made use of the opportunities they were given. There were several Technical Old Boys forwards who were prominent, while Shewan and their half, H. Phillips and full-back, M. Guy, played well.
