HUNT AT PATEA
EG MONT-WANG AN LI CLUB A hunt was held on Tuesday at Patea. and owing to the bleak, windy day and the fact that the meet was held on a week day, there was rather a small field. The hunt was held over Messrs. Derrett’s, Hurley’s, and Bremer’s properties, most of the jumps • being wires and boxthorn hedges. Dueling the early part of the afternoon the 'hounds put up a hare on the river flat I from Mr. Derrett’s property and riders ' had to be content to watch from above unable to take part in the chase. • Hares were scarce after this and gul- > lies were combed for half an hour i without success until one was at last I raised at the crossroads, giving a good • run towards Whenuakura for about [ two or three miles. There was an- ' other good run on Mr. Derrett’s prop- ; erty, but the hare was eventually lost. | A few empty saddles were noticed but [some good jumping was witnessed. • After the hunt the master, Mr. W. T. Simmons, thanked theh owners for the I use of their properties. ; The next meet will be held at Wai- | hau, the property of Mr. W. R. S. I Brewer, but owing to Mrs. Brewer’s recent illness there will be no entertainment at homestead as in previous ! years.
