Wanganui A. and P. Show Dates EXECUTIVE VOICES PROTEST SUGGESTION REGARDING CHANGE At a meeting of the Western District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society the secretary of the Wanganui A. and P. Association, Mr. A. R. Donaldson, made an emphatic protest against any alteration of dates already fixed for the 1939 spring circuit. At the conference it was reported that Egmont was appealing to the Royal Society and had suggested that the Wanganui Show dates be advanced one day. The secretary’s report was discussed at a recent meeting of the executive committee of the Wanganui A. and P. Association, and the whole history of the movement to interfere with the Wanganui dates in the last year or two was traced. It was eventually decided that under no circumstances would Wanganui depart from the dates already granted them at the Feilding conference of delegates in February—Wednesday and Thursday, November 8 and 9, 1939. A letter was received from the secretary of the Western District Council advising that a conference between, the Wanganui, Egmont and Stratford A. and P. Associations would be held at 9.30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, and asking that two delegates from the association, and the secretary, be appointed to attend the conference. It was decided to appoint Messrs. C. C. Baldwin and C. J. Masters to attend the conference, with the secre-, tary, with instructions to oppose any alterations in the dates granted in February, and to suggest that a solution of the difficulty that had arisen would be the return of Egmont and Stratford to the schedule of dates which had existed for so many years. It was further decided that, in the event of the conference at Hawera being unfavourable to Wanganui, the secretary be empowered to lodge an immediate appeal to the Royal Agricultural Society. **

The president, Mr. W. Craig, presided over the meeting of the executive committee, and also present were Messrs. W. R. Ford, R. Campion, J. Hunter, T. Mitchell, H. G. Birch, G. B. Anderson, C. J. Masters, and C. M. Strouts.

The following new' members were proposed and elected: R. V. Brown, C. N. Johnson, M. G. Podjursky, W. G. Haggle, W. B. Alexander, J. J. Wickham, T. E. Watson, and H. C. Addenbrooke.

The secretary's report on donations of trophies made since last meeting was read and approved, the donors being as follows: J. Williams and Co., tea service; A. C. The Director of Massey Agricultural College wrote forwarding 50 copies of programme, of lectures for conference to be held on June 7,8, and 9. The secretary’s action in forwarding a copy to each member of the general committee was approved. J. E. Mason wrote offering to bring the McFarlane group of dare-devil cowboy stunt riders to the next show for £125 plus stabling for four horses. The offer was declined. Mr. A. F. Armstrong, Akitio, wrote forwarding cheque for £lO 10s for the New Zealand chilled beef championship prize fund. The letter was referred to Mr. Mitchell for attention, Mr. Armstrong to be thanked for his generous donation. The Royal Agricultural Society wrote stating that the future o£ the Royal Show would be discussed at the annual meeting of the society in July. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of delegates with power to act. The matter of holding wood-chop-ping contests at the next show was held over until next meeting.

The secretary reported that he had arranged with the National Dancing Association to organise dancing competitions at the next show, the association to provide cash prizes and judge’s expenses up to £2O in all. His action was .approved. A ladies’ committee had reviewed the home industries schedule for the next show and had recommended some alterations, reported the secretary. The alterations were approved. The secretary reported that the school. tion schedule had been revised ana he was instructed to solicit the help of school committees in an endeavour to obtain adequate entries from city schools.
