OBITUARY
MISS ALISON MCDONALD (Own Correspondent!. MARTON, May 15. There passed away at Auckland on Thursday, May 11, Miss Alison McDonald, a well-known and highly respected citizen of Marton and a mcmi ber of one of the pioneer families of Rangitikei. Miss McDonald was on a motor tour to Auckland when she suddenly took ill and passed away peacefully in her sleep at a private hospital in Auckland. The late Miss McDonald was for many yqears infant mistress at the Marton School, and many of the present residents of Marion were at some time under her personal care and guidance in their early school days. In later years she iett the teaching profession and retired to live at her well-known residence in Broadway. Marton. She was a very ardent worker in the Presbyterian Church and was always ready to support any movement for the welfare of the town and district. Her sudden passing came as a great shock to a large circle of relatives and friends and her happy smile and kindly actions will be sadly missed by the whole community. A large gathering of friends and relatives assembled to pay their last respects on Saturday afternoon, when the funeral took place at Ml. View Cemetery. Among the many beautiful lloral tributes was a posy of Howers from an old pupil. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. T. H. Burton. The pall-bearers were Messrs. R. S. McDonald, G. Prince, H. McDonald. E. Taylor. T. Prince and K. Mclntyre. The late Miss McDonald was the last surviving member and sister of the late Mr. J. J. McDonald, of Marton.
