OBITUARY
MRS. ALFRED BURNETT. On Sunday evening, Mrs. Alfred Burnett (nee Euphemia Anderson) who has been a resident of the Wanganui district for many years passed away at her residence in Wanganui in her 86th. years. Born in Haddingtonshire, East Lowlands, in 1953, the deceased came to New Zealand in 1857 in the sailing ship Oliver Lang, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Anderson, who made their home at Preston Hill, Long Acre. After her marriage to Mr. Alfred Burnett, the deceased lived for many years at “Oneida,” Fordell and subsequently in Wanganui. Her husband predeceased her by over 17 years. Mrs. Burnett was generous in her nature, quiet and retiring, and a devoted wife and mother and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her sterling qualities. A family of three daughters and one son is left. They are: Mrs. R. Welsh, Mrs. J. S. Harrison and Mrs. Cameron, of Wanganui, and Mrs. A. H. Burnett, of Fordell. The passing of Mrs. Burnett leaves a gap in the ranks of those settlers who faced the early days of this district with quiet fortitude.
