SAVING THE TOHEROAS

TWO YEARS’ (LOSE SEASON PROPOSAL IN DARGAVILLE DARGAVILLE, April 27. Representations to the Minister oi Marine, Hon. P. Fraser, that a close season of two years be observed for the taking of toheroas, in an endeavour to prevent the depletion of the beds on the west coast in the vicinity of Dargaville, were decided upon at a special meeting of the Toheroa Advisory Committee. The committee also approved a suggestion that the quantity allowed should be reduced from 50 to 25 a person. It was decided to suggest to the Minister that the punishment for breaches of the regulations during the period should include confiscation of the vehicle in which the toheroas were found, as in the oyster reanlat-ien®.-
