VULNERABLE IF N.Z. ATTACKED NEED FOR LAND FORCE I Per Preee Association. | WHANGAREI, April 27. "Northland, in the event ot war in the Pacific, would be one of the most vulnerable and dangerously situated parts of New Zealand if the invader decided to secure a foothold," said Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, addressing a public meeting which endorsed the objects of the New Zealand Defence League. "It is no longer possible to look to the Navy for coastal protection," he said. “The foundations of an efficient air force are being built, but they are nccesarily small compared with potential aggression forces. New Zealand must rely on trained land troops to resist invasion. The experience of Turkey on Gallipoli showed what such troops could do,” he added.
