SHOT IN THE HEAD

MOTORIST COLLAPSES AT WHEEL MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR ON PAEKAKARIKI [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 26. At about 9.45 last night, John William Brady, 26, a labourer employed by the Hutt County Council at Paraparaumu, was driving a three-seater car along the main highway on the Wellington side of Paekakariki Hill, accompanied by two companions when suddenly he collapsed over the wheel and the car ran into the bank. The two others were of the opinion that Brady had taken a fainting fit. They were K. M. Da\|es, 62 Pilmuir Street, Lower Hutt, and E. P. Ryan, 126 a High Street, Lower Hutt, and escaped with slight cuts. Brady was taken to hospital by private car. After an examination of the body the police came to the conclusion that there was a possibility of foul play and this morning a post mortem was held. It resulted in the discovery that the victim had been shot in the back of the head by a bullet which was later extracted and handed to the scientific department at police headquarters for examination. In the meantime the car was taken charge of by the police and taker! to Paekakariki. Superintendent Lewin, accompanied by a detective, left this morning to examine it.
