WINTER SCULLING
new organisation formed A meeting was held in the Auckland Rowing Club's shed last week to consider the advisability of forming a club to organise winter sculling. About 20 oarsmen attended. Mr. G. Oxspring was appointed chairman, and proposals were put forward. It was the opinion of those present that the members of the sculling club should maintain their identity as members of rowing clubs and that they should meet solely for the purpose of coaching and providing competitions for scullers during the winter. As it was agreed that this organisation should in no way -be allowed to interfere with the rowing clubs’ activities, considerable discussion took place on the question ol holding races on Saturday or Sunday. The season would extend from April 1 to October 30. It was agreed that members should belong to a rowing club affiliated to the Auckland Rowing Association. The meeting decided to form a club, and officers were appointed and instructed to draft a set of rules, which will be submitted at a general meeting to be called at a later date. It is hoped to include double sculling. The executive will be as follows;—Club captain, Mr. Darcy Had-
field; deputy-captain, Mr. R. B. Smith; secretary and treasurer. Mr, H. T. Jellie; committee, Messrs. H. Spoon and W. L. Carr.
