MAJESTIC THEATRE

“HOLIDAY” Fine entertainment is offered i<n “Holiday,” concluding to-night at the Majestic Theatre. It sets out to prove that temperamental affinity is more important for a successful marriage than love. Cary Grant appears as Johnny Case, who falls in love with the daughter of a wealthy industrial magnate. His fiancee and her father cannot understand him when he states that wealth and position are of no importance. Gradually he discovers that the girl’s sister sympathises with his beliefs and the picture is brought to a satisfactory conclusion after a number of dramatic scenes. Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant have the romantic leads, and other parts are well taken by Lew Ayres, Doris Nolan, Henry Kolker, Edward Everett Horton and Binnie Barnes. The supporting programme includes: “Snowtime,” a coloured rhapsody; “Golf Magic,” a sports thrill; the British Airmail News and the Australian Cinesound Review. “Young Dr. Kildare.” Drama and romance in the life of a struggling junior physician are entertainingly blended in “Young Doctor Kildare,” which opens to-morrow at the Majestic Theatre. Lew Ayres as the eager young Doctor Kildare is human and natural in a role which he plays with artistic restraint. Lynne Carver handles the romantic lead with technique that indicates beyond question her early rise to stardom. Lionel Barrymore, as the grizzled surgeon who knows that, his days are numbered, gives a performance that is entirely in accord with the Barrymore tradition. Jo An Sayers, who enacts the tragic role of a rich man’s daughter, weary of life and all that it. j means, reveals a rare talent with remarkable depth of understanding. The supporting cast is uniformly excellent with first-ratb performances by Nr/ Pendleton, Samuel S. Hinds, Emmr Dunn, Walter Kingsford and Truma: Bradley. The high-class supports include “Mental Poise,” a Robert Benchley comedy, “Men of Steel,” a musical comedy, “Football Romeo,” an Our Gang feature, and t.he latest airmail news from England and abroad. i
