MANGAWEKA TENNIS NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent) MANGAWEKA, March 21. A most enjoyable game was played on the local courts on March 12, against Rata. The visiting team proved the winners by 16 sets and 56 games. Mr. Sherlock, the president, extended the club's thanks to the visiting team. Mr. Rhodes suitably responded for the Rata team. During the afternoon the local ladies supplied a dainty afternoon tea. Rata won 21 sets and 146 games, and Mangaweka won 5 sets and 90 games. A most enjoyable game was played with Rangiwahia on the local courts on March 19, the visitors having a narrow margin of six games in winning the match. Some very close games were played, as the scores showed. The club captain and secretary, Mr. Jacob, at the end of the match thanked the visitors for the splendid games that they had. given his club. Mr. Amadio responded on behalf of the Rangiwahia Club. The | ladies again provided afternoon tea. > Mr. Jacob presented Miss Mahoney | with a small bedroom clock. Miss Mahoney is leaving shortly to take up ' nursing in the Auckland Hospital. She has the club’s best wishes in her future life. Miss Mahoney will be missed here in Mangaweka, not only as a keen tennis player, but she has ’ always been the life of a concert with her humorous songs. Rangiwahia won 11 sets and 106 games, and Mangaweka 11 sets and 100 games. On the 26th the return match with Bulls will be played on the local i courts, play commencing at 10.30 a.m. > If possible the return match with - Rangiwahia will take place on the I first week-end after Easter.
