SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETS (Own Correspondent) RAETIHI, arch 21. The March meeting of the Raetihi School Committee was presided over by Mr. W. P. Mead. The secretary was directed to forward letters of appreciation to all who assisted to make the school picnic such a success—particularly Mr. R. Allan for the use of his property. The headmaster's report revealed that the present roll number is 314. In a recent visit to the school, the Chief Inspector, Mr. Boden, had commented favourably upon the good condition of the school grounds. Mr. Laing also said that it was intended to form a “percussion *band" for the younger children at the school. TENNIS RAETIHI v. ST. JOHN’S During the week-end a team of 16 players from the St. John's Lawn Tennis Club, Wanganui, paid a visit to the Raetihi courts. Pleasant weather favoured the match which has become an annual event keenly anticipated by the members of both clubs. The result was a win for St. John’s by 17 matches to 14, one set being unfinished. At the conclusion of the day's play, Mr. H. P. Manson, captain of the Raetihi Tennis Club, expressed his team's genuine pleasure in receiving a visit from St. John’s. A strong tie of friendship had been formed between the two clubs and this fixture had become the most popular event of the season. Mr. J. Dempsey replied for St. John’s and took the opportunity of presenting an original and ingenious shield, appropriately decorated, for annual competition between the two clubs.
