He seems almost, like a spoilt child tha has got a good thrashing at. school He and his associates during lhe election campaign and since have done their level best to damn New Zealand’s name hnd credit in everythin': that would lend to build a .nation but I think we can get. there ii spile of all of it. “We have set out on a campaigr to build New Zealand and seeing that the elections are over is it. toe much to expect Mr. Hamilton's support ?” Mr. Savage said that so far a.tightening the people’s belts was concerned Mr. Hamilton knew more about the belt-tightening philosophy than anyone. He and his Government were responsible for a lot of it during 1931 to 1935. “I cannot give a more substantial reply to that than that given by the people themselves ir 1934 and 1938 after a campaign o; vilification and misrepresentation tin precedented in New Zealand's politics history,” he said. Referring lo remarks i.n regard t< the money' system. Mr. Savage sair he wanted a system that would give the people access to what they produced. Il had not been possible to de that up to now. Before very long he was going to ask lhe people vvhe had savings, and they did not have much during Mr. Hamilton’s term o, office,-to invest them in helping tr build New Zealand industry. There was no better propositio.n in whirl' they could invest because they- anr their children’s children would b( looking for employment in a place If which they had a right to look foi employment. Mr. Savage asked what, wouh have happened if Mr. Hamilton ane his party' had been elected at th; last election. He supposed he woulf be forgiven for suggesting that har they been in power wages woul( havev been reduced. Mr. Hamilton and his associates "-eve talking i: a negative sense all the time, nothin' of a positive character.
